Screening Linked to Care (SLTC)

What does Screening Linked to Care look like for your child?

We take the following steps:

  1. Schools will send consent forms home with information for you to see about SLTC.

  2. Your child will be screened in school.

  3. If your child tests high for suicidality, depression, or anxiety you will be contacted immediately.

  4. Your child will have access to a mental health professional. That professional will meet with your child to talk about the struggles they are experiencing.

  5. You will be contacted to go over what was talked about and receive recommendations. You will be provided resources and information to help your family navigate next steps.

Screening in school does NOT cause suicidality.

There is sometimes concern that screening for suicidal thoughts and behaviors might cause or make a student more likely to think about or attempt suicide.

Research definitively shows that is NO evidence of this for screening for suicidal thoughts or behaviors. By identifying those with suicidality and those struggling with mental health, we get the opportunity to help them access appropriate care.

You are not alone.

Many families have a loved one who is struggling with their mental health. We acknowledge navigating mental health care is difficult and can be overwhelming. If you find you are struggling to access care, please see our resources for help.
